Oakland’s rolling lawns run from the house to the large pond filled with a huge variety of friendly duck, on a site that was originally farmland. Carefully selected herbaceous plants and shrubs provide this well established garden with plenty for the plantsman to enjoy. As you walk through the naturalised areas, you will find Cherries, Exochorda, Azalea and Rhododendron and further still a beautiful woodland walk with a carpet of bluebells. Oaklands is a plantsman’s garden with a well recognised arboretum. The trees planted by Jurat Bonn include Acer, Drimys, Michelia, Dawn Redwood and what is reputed to be Jersey’s largest Walnut tree! An informal and natural feel prevails throughout. A further highlight is the well-stocked kitchen garden which keeps the family self-sufficient in fruit and veg.
Open by kind permission of owners.
𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. At Oaklands there will be disabled parking near the house. From the disabled parking and from the main entrance gate there is wheelchair access to the terrace where cream teas are served, however, this involves going over grass.
It is quite a long walk from the entrance gate but this is where there was a drive previously, so it is quite firm under the grass. The walk from the disabled parking involves walking on the driveway and then on the lawn for the length of the terrace to access the slope up to it.
The walks around the garden are all grassy, the lawn in front of the house and around the vegetable garden is mowed but not the grass in the woodland areas. The toilet is small, it has 2 steps up to the door and no additional handles.
We look forward to seeing you there! https://maps.app.goo.gl/LetCUftwfmuSjPge9
